Radiology Specialist and Leader Dr. Gail Weingast Has Plenty of Education

After several years working in other hospitals in Colorado and New York, she landed at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut, where she has transformed their radiology department into one of the best in the region, the nation and the world. The career path that led to Dr. Gail Weingast to become a radiology superstar at one of the most prominent hospitals in the country began rather inauspiciously. Her first degree, earned in 1969, was in Spanish, which she earned from Tufts University’s Jackson College.

While it seems clear medicine wasn’t at the top of her mind when she began her education. Despite that, however, she made up for lost time. By 1976 - just seven years later - she was Dr. Gail Weingast, MD, which she earned when she worked hard to complete her initial studies at the Boston University School of Medicine. Of course, as is always the case for most doctors, Dr. Gail Weingast had a lot more to do.By 1983, she had completed a pediatrics internship, a pediatrics residency, a radiology residency and an ultrasound fellowship at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, and she completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver.

Radiology Professional Dr. Gail Weingast Earned Her Position

It was not clear from the very beginning that Dr. Gail Weingast would even become a doctor. In fact, in 1969, Gail Weingast attended Jackson College at Tufts University, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Spanish. If she wasn’t into medicine then, however, before long, she was really into it, because she earned her medical degree from the Boston University School of Medicine and officially became Gail Weingast MD in 1976.

Following medical school, Dr. Weingast did a pediatrics internship, a two-yearpediatrics residency, a three-year radiology residency, and an ultrasound fellowship, all at Colorado General Hospital in Denver, although she completed her post-graduate studies as a radiologist at St. Anthony’s Hospital, also in Denver. Soon after, Dr. Gail Weingast worked at several other hospitals in Colorado and New York, before she settled into her current position at William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. She has now been there for more than 20 years.

An Education for Success - Gail Weingast MD

In order to get started on the right foot, Gail Weingast MD set out to get an education she could she be proud of and after her education from Boston University, where she earned her a medical degree, she then did an internship in the field of pediatrics from 1976-1977 at the Colorado General Hospital in Denver. This was her first chance to help people directly with her education and she thoroughly enjoyed the fact that she had the ability to help people with the skills she had gained. She then continued her education with a residency in the Radiology department from 1980 to 1983 at the Colorado General
Hospital as well, directly followed by a fellowship in the field of Ultrasound in 1983.

After that she wanted to further her skills and knowledge in the radiology field and so to improve her skills she did a postgraduate study as a Radiologist from 1983 to 1984 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Denver, CO. It was during this time that she finally found her niche and love for the field of radiology.

Gail Weingast MD has now worked as a radiologist for over twenty years. She is currently titled Chief of Ultrasound and Chief of Breast imaging at the William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. She believes that her education prepared her well for her career and is grateful for the skills she obtained during that time.
